Farm Tour
University of Hawai'i College of Tropical Agriculture and Human Resources
Mealani Research Station, Waimea, Hawai‘i

The Mealani Research station of the University of Hawai'i is known for its trials of windbreak and fodder trees, as well as ground cover trials. See the handout covering windbreak and fodder tree trials (pdf file).

We arrived at the main station and walked about 10 minutes to the trails, visible here in the distance.

Entrance to trials area.

J. B. Friday, the UH Extension Forester, led the tour. Note Araucaria species windbreak trial in background.

A leucaena forage trial planted in 1991-2 is still maintained.

JB Friday discusses the outcome of the species trial.

Various grass and legume ground covers are growing in trial plots.

JB Friday leads the group back to the bus.
