Farm Tour
Hugo Gange farm, Dededo, Guam

Hugo Gange has been farming all his life, and runs a diverse organic farm with vegetables, sweet potatos, coconuts, and other crops.

In this field, Hugo is growing sweet potatos as the main crop. There are also rows planted with tomatos, coconut seedlings, and ti leaf. The coconuts will eventually take over the field.

Hugo discusses his planting methods with Mari Marutani.

J. B. Friday shows how shallow the soil is--the mounds where the sweet potatos are growing are essentially the only loose soil.

In the foreground, there is a recently planted field with coconut and ti leaf. An older field in the background is filling out with coconut palms.

Hugo demonstrates his sparing irrigation technique where he uses a one gallon jug to manually distribute water along the rows.

Hugo has a roadside fruit and vegetable stand, where he sells his produce directly to the public.
